Project Duration: Since 2003 to Present
In Bangladesh, where more than 80% of the population resides in villages, poverty remains a significant challenge, particularly for women, widows, and disabled individuals. Recognizing the potential of Black Bengal goat rearing as a sustainable income-generating activity, Central Gonounnayan Sangstha (CGS) is initiating a project to empower rural communities through this venture. The project aims to provide beneficiaries, especially women and marginalized groups, with the resources, training, and support needed to establish and manage small-scale goat rearing enterprises.
Goal
The primary goal of this project is to generate income and employment opportunities for entrepreneurs while creating new avenues for entrepreneurship through Black Bengal goat rearing.
Project Objectives
Establishing Goat Rearing as a Sustainable and Income-Generating Sector
This objective focuses on positioning goat rearing as a viable and sustainable income source for rural and urban communities. By providing necessary resources and support, the project aims to establish goat farming as a recognized and profitable venture.
Generating Employment and Income for Entrepreneurs
The project is designed to create employment opportunities for the beneficiaries, enabling them to start their goat rearing enterprises and significantly improve their financial stability.
Improving Nutritional Status and Increasing the Supply of Animal Protein
One of the key benefits of goat rearing is the improvement of nutritional status in the community. By increasing the availability of goat meat, the project aims to enhance the local supply of animal protein, which is crucial for health and development.
Promoting Small and Medium-Scale Goat Rearing Farms
Output
Beneficiaries are expected to earn additional income by selling goat offspring, with each earning BDT 28,800 within 18 months. The project aims to empower beneficiaries to continue goat rearing independently, ensuring sustained income generation for years to come.
Conclusion
Through this initiative, CGS aims to eradicate poverty and empower rural communities, particularly women and marginalized groups, by providing them with the means to achieve economic self-sufficiency and improve their livelihoods. By supporting sustainable goat rearing practices, the project not only enhances the income and employment opportunities for entrepreneurs but also contributes to the overall economic development of the regions involved.
